El Medano is a great, small, friendly town which offers an array of excellent shops, bars & restaurants. Eating and shopping here is a delight. It is very safe for children. It also offers great evening entertainment for adults and children. El Medano is known as the windsurfing capital of Tenerife and used to host the world championships. El Medano Beach and La Tejita Beach, just a stonethrow away from each other, are the longest natural sandbeaches on Tenerife. They are blue flag beaches, which shows up the highest water quality as possible. For those of you who love to golf, there are several golf courses for you to choose from and all within a 15 minute drive. There are many scenic paths nearby, ideal for a leisurely evening stroll, or a brisk walk. These paths are also excellent for biking and there is a good bike hire/tours shop in town. The Airport South is only about 6 miles away and the transfer rate is only about 10€ if u take a taxi.
The wind is very consistent. Only staying in El Medano you will be able to sail with waveboards nearly every day. If you have a car and you check the weatherforecast and the spots at the homepage you must be quite unlucky to not find every day a spot that works at least for 5,7 m2 and big waveboard.
The airtemperature is stabile between 22 and 30 degree Celsius. The watertemperature between 19 and 25 Celsius.
Canary Islands have a specific climat that finds it's balance under the influence of the dominant northeast, fresh and humid tradewinds. Those winds blow in a layer of air from the surface up to around 1700m. On Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera and Gran Canaria, the high mountains push the humid air up, cooling it down and forming a dens layer of clouds with lots of rain on the northern side, facing the wind. This creates a kind of rain forest very specific on these islands, while on the other side of the mountains the drier air leaves a desert like vulcanic landscape under a nearly always shining sun with clouds peeling over the top of the mountains.

El Medano ist ein toller, kleiner Ort mit zahlreichen Geschaeften, Bars und Restaurants. Essen gehen und Einkaufen ist hier ein Vergnuegen. Es gibt viele tolle Angebote speziell fuer Kinder. Am Strand, den Strandpromenaden, Plazas und Spielplaetzen koennen sich unsere Kleinen nach herzenslust und sicher, austoben. Speziell im Sommer gibt es jeden Abend Kino gratis auf der HauptPlaza. El Medano ist bekannt als Windsurfhauptstadt Teneriffas und war viele Jahre lang Tourstopp der Windsurfing Worldtour. Der Strand von El Medano und La Tejita, nur einen Steinwurf voneinander entfernt sind die laengsten natuerlichen Sandstraende auf Teneriffa. Fuer die ausgezeichnete Wasserqualitaet wurde der El Medano Strand 2006 mit der blauen Flagge fuer bestmoegliche Wasserqualitaet ausgezeichnet. Fuer alle Golfliebhaber gibt es mehrere Golfplaetze im Umkreis von 15 min. Autofahrt. Es gibt viele verschiedene Wander und Spazierwege in El Medano und von El Medano aus, die zu einer kleineren Wanderung an der Kueste oder zu einem leichten Abendspaziergang einladen. Diese Wege koenen ebenfalls zum Biken genutzt werden. Es gibt eien gut ausgestatten Bikeshop mit Verleih. Der Teneriffa Sued Flughafen Reina Sofia ist nicht mal 10 km entfernt und ein Taxi kostet gerade mal ca. 10 €.
Der Wind ist sehr konstant. Ohne sich aus El Medano weg zu bewegen kommt man fast jeden Tag auf sein Waveboard. Wenn man allerdings ein Auto besitzt, die Wettervorhersage und Spots kennt, kommt man auf Teneriffa nur sehr wenige Tage im Jahr nicht zum Windsurfen, zumindest mit grossem Waveboard und Segel. Die Lufttemperatur betraegt konstant zwischen 22 und 30 Grad Celsius. Die Wassertemperatur zwischen 19 und 25 Grad Celsius. Die Kanaren haben ein spezielles Klima das vom dominierenden, frischen und feuchten Nordostpassatwind bestimmt wird. Diese Winde wehen bis auf eine Hoehe von ca. 1700m. Auf Teneriffa, La Palma, La Gomera und Gran Canaria leiten die hohen Berge die feuchte Luft nach oben. Dort kuehlen sie sich ab und formen eine Wolkenschicht auf den Nordseiten der jeweiligen Inseln. Dieser staendige Nachschub an Wolken erwirkt das sich die Wolkenschicht so verdichtet das die Feuchtigkeit nicht mehr gehalten werden kann und es zu regnen beginnt. Dieses staendige Phaenomen erklaert das Zustandekommen einer Regenwaldartigen Vegetation in den noerdlichen Gebieten dieser Inseln. Auf den anderen Seiten der Inseln hingegen kommt der Regen nie an und die trockenere Luft bewirkt eine vulkanartige Landschaft. Das erklaert auch warum es im Sueden der Inseln fast immer waermer, wolken und regenfrei ist, man aber einen Wolkenstreifen an den Gipfeln der Berge erkennen kann.

El Medano es una pequeña y maravillosa ciudad, donde la diversion y el ocio estan garantizados, tanto para adultos como para los mas pequeños. La Playa del Medano y La Tejita han sido galardonadas con la Bandera Azul, por ser las mas extensas de arenas naturales en todo Tenerife y por ser unas de las mas limpias y bonitas de toda España. Es un lugar de ensueño para los que prefieren pasear por la playa al atardecer, asi como para los mas activos, ya que no podemos olvidar la famosa Montaña Roja, que es la que separa ambas playas. Aqui podemos hacer senderismo y apreciar las magnificas vistas que ofrece a lo largo del camino. En El Medano existe una gran variedad de parques infantiles, Bares, Restaurantes, Tiendas, Pubs, etc... . Durante los meses de verano, el Ayuntamiento organiza talleres, cine, conciertos y diferentes espectaculos de gran calidad. La Playa del Cabezo y del Medano, conocidas por sus campeonatos mundiales del windsurf en el pasado, son sitios ideales para los amantes de los deportes acuaticos, que se pueden disfrutar a lo largo de todo el año. Otra alternativa es el golf. A tan solo 15 min en coche se encuentran 5 de los mejores campos de toda la isla. El aeropuerto Sur Reina Sofia esta a unos 10 km. Desde ahi salen autobuses, o si lo prefiere, se pueden coger un taxi hasta El Medano por tan solo 10 €. La Temperatura es templada todo el año, entre 22 a 30 grados centigrados y el agua entre 19 a 25 grados centigrados. El viento es muy constante y propicio para navegar casi cada dia. Si han decidido alquilar un coche para desplazarse por el resto de la isla, no cabe duda de se trata de muy mala suerte de no poder encontrar diario una playa con buenas condiciones - por lo menos para tabla de 90 l y vela de 5,3 a 5,7 m2.
Las Islas Canarias tienen un clima muy especial, dominado y balanceado por el fresco y humedo viento de direccion Nordeste. El Passat del Nordeste sopla constante en la region de canarias hasta marruecos en alturas hasta aprox. 1700m. En Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera y Gran Canaria las altas montañas empujan el aire humedo hacia arriba. Ahi se enfria el aire y se forman nubes en el norte de las islas. La continua Llegada de nueva aire humedo hace que se comprima el aire y la humedad en las nubes, hasta que empieza llover. Este fenomeno es la razon porque en el norte de estas islas hay una vegetation muy verde con extensos bosques. Al contrario la lluvia casi nunca llega hacia al sur de las islas, por eso la vegetacion es mas pobre, parecido a una region volcanica. Esto tambien explica porque en el sur casi nunca hay nubes, es seco, caliente, pero en las altos de las montañas se pueden ver las nubes.
